Welcome to Passerelle, a podcast designed to spark the curiosity of French learners.
Emilie , , .
Hi, I'm Emilie, and this week, as always, I'd like to invite you to take a few minutes to think about something with me.
, , , .
This episode, like the ones before it, is meant to be a conversation starter. Think of it as an exchange inspired by the podcasts I listen to, the books I read, and everyday conversations.
, .
My goal is simply to share some food for thought and encourage you to ask yourself these questions in French.
, , .
, , .
In English, we sometimes say that time slips through our fingers.
.
I often feel like time flies by.
, , est-ce est-ce est-ce Est-ce questions-là, .
It's a cliché, a commonplace saying, but it holds some truth about a feeling I think many of us share: do you ever feel like you're constantly racing against time? Is your weekend even filled with all sorts of activities? Do you ever feel like you don't have enough free time? We're going to reflect on all these questions together in this week's episode, and I encourage you to try and answer them.
, .
First, let's look at how we define "free time" and how people spend this non-work time.
, .
Here, I'll focus on weekends and days off in general.
, .
This will be a chance for me to talk a little about my personal experience. I'll share some of the challenges I face sometimes, particularly struggling to separate my free time from work.
, .
Next, let's ask ourselves if our impression of having less and less free time reflects reality.
, .
To do this, we're going to look at some figures and talk about how we perceive time.
, .
And finally, let's consider this emphasis on productivity. Let's question this idea that if we're not doing something, so to speak, if we're not being productive, we're wasting our time. I suggest we delve into the heart of the matter that interests us today, which is free time.
Est-ce Est-ce , , .
Can we start by defining it? Can you tell me how much time you spend on leisure activities each week? I sometimes feel like leisure time, the time we spend having fun, gets mixed up with all the other things we do during the week.
, .
I feel like using this podcast as an example, the one I'm recording right now.
.
I use my free time when I'm prepping for it, writing it, recording it, and so on and so forth. Free time, to me, is time when I'm not working, when I don't have classes with my students, or simply put, any time I don't have specific tasks related to my job as a French teacher.
, , , .
But actually, the more I think about it, the more I realize that making this podcast is also a journey of self-discovery.
.
This podcast project is in some ways an extension of my work as a teacher.
.
All that to say, it's easy to blur the lines between our free time and work time.
